RAWALAKOT: A six year old boy, identified as Abbas Anis, lost his life in a tragic road accident on Stadium Road in Rawalakot on Monday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, a speeding Hiace van veered off the road and hit the child on the footpath, killing him on the spot. The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.
The deceased was a student of Perfect Educators School and a resident of Juglari Bagh. The accident occurred around 7:45am, sparking grief and anger across the locality.
Residents and parents of schoolchildren staged a protest by blocking the road, demanding that authorities construct speed breakers in the area, citing the presence of several schools and frequent over-speeding incidents. Later, the road was reopened after the district administration assured the protesters that speed breakers would soon be installed to prevent such accidents in the future. “This is not the first time an accident has happened here. Children walk to school every day on this road, and without proper safety measures, their lives remain at risk,” said one protesting parent.
