Funeral prayer in absentia of Prof Butt offered in Islamabad

Islamabad: The funeral prayer in absentia of the late Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, a prominent leader of the Kashmir freedom movement, intellectual and former Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference was offered in Islamabad today.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chaudhry Anwarul Haq specially attended
the funeral.

A large number of Hurriyat leaders, political, religious and social leaders, intellectuals, lawyers, journalists and people belonging to different schools of thought were present on the occasion.

Before the funeral prayer, senior Hurriyat leader Muhammad Farooq Rahmani paid rich tribute to the deep connection of the late Professor Abdul Ghani Butt with the Kashmir freedom movement, his intellectual and political insight and struggle.

He said that Professor Abdul Ghani Butt always emphasized unity and solidarity and exhorted the Kashmiri people to move towards the goal of freedom through mutual understanding and solidarity. He said his speeches and writings serve as a beacon of light for the Kashmiri people.

Other speakers said the deceased was not only an experienced and talented political leader but also a thoughtful thinker and a high-level intellectual who dedicated his entire life for the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.

They expressed their determination that the intellectual and ideological legacy of Professor Abdul Ghani Butt will be kept alive and the freedom movement will be continued on a stronger foundation to realize his dream. They said Professor Butt’s role will continue to be a source of encouragement, guidance and inspiration for the coming generations.

The speakers said the death of the deceased is an irreparable loss to the Kashmir freedom movement, the gap of which cannot be filled for years.

At the end of the ceremony, special prayers were offered for the deceased’s high rank, reward, complete forgiveness and a high place in Paradise.
