Islamabad: Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) held a joint press conference at Kashmir House, Islamabad, on Wednesday, strongly condemning the violent attack by armed protesters on AJK policemen that left three personnel martyred and over 150 injured, including eight in critical condition.
Expressing deep grief over the loss of lives, the AJK Prime Minister said that such violence not only destabilizes the state but also undermines the collective struggle of the Kashmiri people. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred policemen and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The Prime Minister once again invited leaders of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) to the negotiating table, stressing that dialogue remains the only viable path to conflict resolution. “Ninety percent of JAAC’s demands have already been addressed by the government. However, the deadlock continues over two issues that require constitutional amendments, which demand time and consensus-building,” he stated. He further added that the Prime Minister of Pakistan has taken personal interest in resolving the matter and is committed to addressing the legitimate concerns of the people of AJK.
Federal Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that the protests, which initially began peacefully, unfortunately turned violent as some elements resorted to attacking law enforcement agencies. “No civilized society can condone firing on police. JAAC must come forward for talks to ensure the peace, progress, and prosperity of Azad Jammu and Kashmir,” he emphasized.
Both leaders underscored the government’s resolve to restore peace and order in the region and reiterated their openness to meaningful negotiations. They urged JAAC leadership to demonstrate responsibility and engage in dialogue for the collective betterment of AJK rather than prolonging unrest that harms ordinary citizens.
